It’s that time of year again: time to reflect, put a list of projects together to start the new year fresh. HR, also known as People and Culture, is a good department to start with, as we’ve faced some interesting challenges over the past few months. Do your processes require a few tweaks in order to adjust to new realities? Are you sure that you are fulfilling your organization’s legal obligations?
Take a moment to review the New Year’s Resolutions checklist below and get inspired to put your own together!
Maintain a Healthy Work Climate and Engagement Level Within Your Organization
Create more space for active listening so that team members feel comfortable opening up to you.
Ask for team members’ opinions and feedback in company initiatives.
Maintain the right mindset as an employer. Openness and transparency go a long way.
Provide ongoing feedback – still and will always be a key factor for successful relationships.
Practice empathy and lead with compassion.
Facilitate the Reintegration of Your Team Members Into a Seamless Workplace
Take the pulse of your team to better understand current engagement levels.
Incorporate your mission, vision and values into your new workplace realities.
Create a roadmap of your organization’s future and evaluate changes.
Design a custom-fit plan that aligns with your mission, vision and values.
Communicate and implement your organization’s seamless workplace project.
Provide coaching and training that aligns with your team’s needs and adds value.
Optimize Your Attraction and Retention Strategies by Starting With Self-Reflection
Reflect on your mission, vision and values as an organization.
Make sure your mission, vision and values are meaningful and aligned with your daily actions.
Make sure your website and social media pages tell your true story.
Revisit your candidate and employee experience programs – they may be outdated, or even non-existent!
Reconsider your total compensation and benefits practices. Times have changed and so have people’s needs.
A recognition program is a must.
Meet Your Legal HR Obligations
Review your HR policies and ensure that they reflect your new work reality, for example teleworking, hybrid model, etc.
Make sure you have a psychological harassment prevention policy (mandatory for all employers since January 1, 2019). Remember to adjust it to include all work realities.
Make sure your alcohol and drug policy reflect the cannabis legislation in Canada (October 2018).
Review your pay equity obligations, including the April 2019 changes.
Ensure that you validate your obligations under the Skills Act if your payroll is $2M or more.
